8051project.org and 8051 microcontroller
This website is dedicated to microcontrollers based on 8051 core and their application in electronic circuits.
So far, several companies offer modern flavours of 8051 chips, ranging from general purpose mocrocontrollers to integrated circuits aimed at specific market.
It results in a cheap electronic products and reusability of development knowledge.
Good explanation of the classic 8051 core could be found on Wikipedia, along with its history.

cereal Emulation Framework
cereal is an emulation framework designed to allow easy emulation of interconnected modules.
Its main component is an 8051 emulator module, so it can be used as an 8051 emulator.
The reason for writing cereal was an 8051 embedded controller which should control an engine using pulse-width modulation, read the resulting flow from a flowmeter
